hey thanks! it was a fun hike and a great spot to shoot and explore. i was using one filter; a 77mm circular polarizer to cut down on reflections on the water

That's what I figured xD I have a 52mm CPL myself, but I still need to use it..I was asking because it looked kind of like you had a ND filter, because it's almost completely light outside.

i will only use my cpol on my 17-40 @17 when the image doesnt feature a large swath of sky. i used it here to cut through the glare on the water and it acted as a roughly 1/3 to 1/2 stop ND just because of what it is. the shade of the forested area really helped even out the light from the relatively clear day.
